Remembering to Breathe

Most times BC (before cancer), little things got taken for granted, usually passing without much thought.  I find myself struggling these days to hold on to moments most would consider insignificant, like watching my daughter paint her toenails bright blue, and trying to remember to breathe.  The thoughts I wouldn't allow in the hospital come unbidden at such times  and I am profoundly grateful that I am around to witness these 'trivial' moments, and hoping I'll never be so complacent as to think them so again.
